Iwobi has suffered an injury to his ankle. Everton’s FA Cup match versus Manchester United at Old Trafford ended with Alex Iwobi being stretchered off the field with a horrific ankle injury, and he is expected to miss significant time.
The Red Devils beat the Toffees 3–1, putting them in the quarterfinals.
Iwobi, 26, twisted his ankle in the 47th minute after a vicious attack from Tyrell Malacia. Iwobi once played for Arsenal. The Everton midfielder covered his face with his hands as he walked off the pitch, perhaps in distress.
Everton’s captain, Seamus Coleman, quickly summoned medical personnel to treat the player.
Alan Stubbs of BBC Radio Merseyside said, “Alex Iwobi has just went over on his ankle, and the ankle has gone inside.”
I really hope he didn’t tear his ankle ligaments, but it looks like it.
Ankle jarred by Malacia’s challenging stomp. It’s possible that he only jarred it and can play through the pain, but if he can’t, he could miss a few weeks.
Iwobi was treated on the pitch before being substituted by Abdoulaye Doucoure, who was met with a rapturous applause from the away Evertonian supporters.
