Deagle50uu, 1 hour agoEventhough that’s true, Google updates it’s devices the day the release the new upda … moreJust for the major OS updates because they are first party. For security updates, Samsung regularly releases them faster than Google itself. Simply because security fixes are much easier to implement than whole new Android version that needs OneUI adapted to it first which takes time. But in general Samsung usually needs just a few months where most other vendors take even up to a year to release major Android updates. Which is just ridiculous.
Anonymous, 9 hours agoSamsung offers 4 years of Android os updates while Google the maker and owner of Android only … moreEventhough that’s true, Google updates it’s devices the day the release the new update. Samsung doesn’t do that even in their last flagships, so when they get older, that gets even worse. I get the point of getting more years of updates, but if they take longer to get them …
CptPower, 4 hours agoHaving 5 years old phone makes no nsense anyway. Most gamers have to update their gaming app … moreJust use ROMs as games. Mobile games keep getting updated and bloated. Pixel 3 plays Dreamcast and PSP emulation pretty much perfectly. I use my Flip 3 for GameCube and PS2.
My Pixel 3 is over 3-years-old since getting it on May 2, 2019. It’s still on Android 9. It’s still the September 2018 update. It still runs many of the newer apps fine. But then again, many of the apps I use are basic. Brave Browser, YouTube, Google Photos, Gmail, etc.
I really only use my Pixel 3 to upload my favorite movies and TV shows onto Google Photos. It’s unlimited on the saver option. Or watch TV on it using the Spectrum TV app. Transferring files onto it is actually faster than my Flip 3.
If you use basic apps like that and you’re not into social media apps like Facebook, then even a 6-year-old LG G5 will work totally fine. My Pixel 3’s battery life has also held up well practicing the 80/40 rule.
As a multimedia player / emulation device, Pixel 3 can last for more than 5 years easily. It’s already turning 4 this October.
Having 5 years old phone makes no nsense anyway.
Most gamers have to update their gaming apps every month or so. If they dont update ap will not work if they update soon orlater phone hardware will not keep up with the game.
I play for example clash of lords 2 which came to the world back in april 2014.
At that time and era it was a good game. Now 8 years after is even better but no device which would and could run the game smoothly at that time will run the game now as smooth as before.
With this phone is the same.
After 4-6 years is good only for brownsing and dialing, messaging thats it.
From games maybe cards or chess soomething not hardware dependand.
For 10% or maybe up to 30% of people hardware doesnt matter as long as phone can run all their basic tasks and is frequently updated.
For rest of us we swap for a new phone every 2-3 years because even a basic apps such as facebook are tottaly different from what they were in time when this phone was released and they could struggle for his hardware and will also load much longer time.
My little S10e (US unlocked version) already had the VoLTE Roaming function nearly two and a half years before this, the feature already come active when i buyed my phone. So this is ridiculous coming from Google, but “is better later than never”.
MRSTEK, 6 hours agomajor OS? Read again, that’s 5 years of security updatesHeh, everyone was saying like they’ll get 5 major OS updates from Pixel 6 onwards. Checked the support page for Pixel’s updates and it turns out it’s still just 3 major OS versions and 2 years of security updates only. Pathetic given it’s a first party device … So, Samsung is really the only Android phone maker with best software support, full stop.
